The Port Augusta Magistrates Court has joined the battery energy storage revolution that is sweeping South Australia as part of our state’s transition to cheaper, more reliable and sustainable electricity.

“The Marshall Government is investing in battery storage for homes and public buildings across the state to make better use of South Australia’s extensive solar energy assets,” said Minister for Energy and Mining Dan van Holst Pellekaan.

“The batteries installed at the Port Augusta Magistrates Court will provide significant benefits by delivering lower electricity costs for years to come by combining a battery with an existing solar photovoltaic (PV) system.

“South Australia leads the world in the adoption of small-scale battery energy storage systems.

“Under the Marshall Government’s Home Battery Scheme more than 12,000 home battery systems subsidies have been approved, with 304 of those systems to be installed in homes in the Upper Spencer Gulf.

“The Port Augusta Magistrates Court is one of several Courts Administration Authority (CAA) buildings across South Australia that will have batteries installed.

“Each of the batteries provided across the CAA buildings are sonnen Batterie Eco 9.53 Hybrid Single Phase 15 kilowatt and will offer more flexible, reliable and effective energy use that takes full advantage of the solar energy they generate themselves.”

The Minister for Energy and Mining added coupling batteries with renewable energy generation allows energy stored during times of low demand to be later used during peak demand for power.

“The CAA’s investment in battery storage will contribute to the South Australian Government reducing its carbon footprint, reduce overall and peak demand on the grid and contribute to lower electricity prices for all South Australians,” he said.

“Importantly, the batteries installed across the CAA buildings are all manufactured locally by South Australian battery manufacturer sonnen Australia, and the Government is pleased by the continued expansion of battery uptake to help reduce peak power prices for communities across our state.

“This initiative demonstrates the Marshall Government is delivering on its plan to increase storage capacity, reduce peak demand and lower electricity prices for all South Australians by rolling out more batteries across the state.”
