Pichi Richi Railway level crossing set for upgrade

05Sep

Local road users in Quorn will be able to cross the Pichi Richi Railway with improved safety, thanks to a newly-announced State Government-funded level crossing upgrade.

The State Government has allocated $690,800 from its Railway Crossing Safety Improvement Program to upgrade the West Terrace level crossing on the Pichi Richi Railway in Quorn.

Under the upgrade, the existing passive Give Way controls at the “Mill” level crossing on West Terrace will be replaced with flashing light and bell assemblies to improve safety for all road users.

The Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society, which operates the railway line, will undertake the upgrade.

Member for Stuart, Dan van Holst Pellekaan, has welcomed the announcement and congratulates the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society in taking the lead on the project.

“This not-for-profit group do an extraordinary amount of work in Quorn and Port Augusta and their knowledge and expertise will be invaluable.”

Works are scheduled to commence in March 2020, with completion expected in June 2020.

The upgrade is not expected to impact planned train services, however speed restrictions will be in place during construction.
