Shop local this Christmas

Member for Stuart, Dan van Holst Pellekaan, is encouraging people to shop local this Christmas to provide a much needed boost to the local economy.

Mr van Holst Pellekaan said spending money locally was more important than ever before.

“South Australian businesses are facing many challenges at the moment, particularly because of the dry season we are experiencing, so every dollar we spend locally in the lead-up to Christmas helps,” he said.

“We have fantastic businesses throughout our electorate stocking a wide range of products and offering great local service.

“It’s also a great time of year to visit any of the markets being held, not only for great locally-made gift ideas but to stock up on delicious local produce.

“The positive impact of spending locally this Christmas should not be underestimated. Small businesses are the backbone of our State’s economy and every dollar a customer spends in a local business contributes to local employment.

“I think it is vital that we support the people who support us and local businesses play an important role not only as employers but also very often as significant sponsors of important local community groups and events.

“When you shop at locally owned stores, the money you spend stays within the community and shopping locally this Christmas will directly benefit you and your community into the future.”
