10 per cent electricity price cut long overdue

30Nov

Minister for Energy Dan van Holst Pellekaan has welcomed announcements from Origin Energy, Red Energy and Lumo Energy that they will drop electricity prices for South Australians by 10 per cent from 1 January 2019.

Origin Energy will reduce electricity prices for concession customers on standing offers or non-discounted plans by 10 per cent, while Red Energy and Lumo Energy will automatically apply a 10 per cent discount to customers on its standing offer.

“I welcome the decision from Origin, Red Energy and Lumo Energy to do what they really should have done long before now,” said Minister for Energy and Mining Dan van Holst Pellekaan.

“Finally those customers on standing offers will be protected by a safety net that automatically discounts bills.

“This is another small step towards lower electricity prices for all South Australians and our government has been working closely with industry to deliver our polices.

“The Marshall Government has made reducing electricity prices its number one priority.

“Our Home Battery Scheme, interconnection to New South Wales, the Virtual Power Plant and the lease of emergency diesel generation are just some this Government’s measures that will drive down the price of electricity for all South Australians.”
