Grants to help communities better prepare for natural disasters have opened for applications, with up to $250,000 per year available as a contribution towards projects.

Member for Stuart, Dan van Holst Pellekaan MP said our electorate of Stuart was susceptible to bushfires, storms and floods, with many communities in the past experiencing firsthand the devastating impact these extreme weather events could have.

“The unfortunate reality is, we will experience them again, but if we can learn from the past and improve how we prepare and react, we will be better placed to deal with them when it happens.

“The Natural Disaster Resilience Program supports state and local government, as well as not for profit and community organisations to carry out projects that focus on resilience before, during or after a natural disaster event.”

The projects must be completed within two years and deliver sustainable benefits beyond the funded period.
