Grants for fire and flood protection

20Feb

Individuals and community groups can apply for grants to better protect themselves from natural disasters, such as fire and flood, when the Regional Capability Community Fund opens on Monday, March 5.

“As many people in the electorate of Stuart would know, bushfires, storms and floods can be devastating,” said Dan van Holst Pellekaan, Member for Stuart.

“The fund supports regional groups and individuals to buy important equipment such as private farm fire units, water storage tanks and sand bagging machines, which can be used to protect and support local communities.

“In the most recent round of funding, almost 30 applicants from our electorate were successful in gaining funding.”

Grants are available to purchase:

  • Water storage tanks and transfer pumps
  • Private farm fire units
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – fire blankets, first aid kits, personal protective clothing
  • Other emergency equipment such as vehicle mounted UHF radios, amber rotating lights, weather stations, flood operation pumps, sand bagging machines, and back up power supply where broad community benefit can be demonstrated.

Approved applicants could secure 50 per cent of the product purchase price up to a maximum of $2,500 (GST exclusive). The grant is a reimbursement – equipment cannot be bought prior to approval.
