Retail sales down under weight of Labor’s high taxes | MEDIA RELEASE

Figures released yesterday by the ABS show in seasonally adjusted terms, retail sales in South Australia fell by 0.4 per cent in December.

South Australia recorded the worst retail sales growth of all mainland states and territories.

“Households were busy paying off Labor’s massive debt, rather than Christmas shopping or eating out in our fantastic restaurants and cafes,” Shadow Minister for Small Business Dan van Holst Pellekaan said.

“Restaurants and cafes were the biggest losers with a 7 per cent drop in retail sales.

“Restaurants and cafes are predominantly small businesses, employing between 1-19 people in South Australia.

“The drop in sales is a sure sign that South Australians are doing it tough.
