The State Liberal Team has welcomed the official signing of the deal to build 12 submarines in Adelaide.

The 12 Future Submarines will be the third project to be delivered from Adelaide, in partnership with French builder DCNS.

This project is worth an estimated $50 billion, creating thousands of jobs and decades of work.

“The State Liberals are proud to have partnered with our Federal Liberal colleagues in delivering this outcome for South Australia and the nation, securing both our defence capabilities and naval shipbuilding industry for the next generations,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.

“I lobbied the Federal Government on the benefits of building the future submarines in Adelaide, which included holding regular meetings with the Prime Minister and Defence Minister.

“I also visited the DCNS shipyards in Cherbourg, France in July last year and was impressed with their skills and knowledge, which they will now transfer to our workforce.

“Australia’s next generation of submarines will be critical to our nation’s defence capabilities and for employment opportunities in South Australia.

“It is great to see that South Australia’s ASC shipyards will have a continuous build, securing thousands of jobs and creating many more, and pumping billions of dollars into the South Australian economy.”
